Mycroft joins Carnegie Mellon SMI cloud consortium Group seeks to create industry-wide standard for measuring cloud-based services NEW YORK, March 22, 2011 – Mycroft Inc. has joined the Carnegie Mellon (Silicon Valley) “Cloud Service Measurement Initiative Consortium,” a collection of cloud-services experts who are creating globally accepted measures for calculating the benefits and risks of cloud computing services. Mycroft is one of 10 member organizations from industry, academia, government and other fields. Mycroft is helping the Consortium to develop a framework of specific measures that will help form the new measurement standard. CA Technologies launched the Service Measurement Initiative in 2010. The ultimate result of this effort will be a document that details the SMI framework, including a comprehensive set of key performance indicators for cloud services and service providers. A first-release of these standards is targeted for this April. “Mycroft is in a strong position to contribute to the Carnegie Mellon Consortium in general, and to the measures development effort in particular,” said Jonathan Freeman, Founder and CIO at Mycroft. “Mycroft is a leading expert in cloud-security, which will be a crucial component of any globally accepted measurement standard.” The Consortium is also committed to data collection and benchmarking, aligning well with the ‘Smart Architect’ component of Mycroft’s recently introduced Heimdall Portal, which leverages SMI to help optimally provision workloads on enterprise grids.
